Automatic Transmission Warning
Many Volvos from the 2000s are fitted with Aisin AF33 series automatic transmissions (Volvo model AW55-50/51SN). These transmissions can be problematic and expensive to rectify.
Look for hesitation in gear changes and a bang once the next gear is selected.
Volvo made changes to these transmissions over the years and sometimes problems can be solved by having the updated parts fitted, a transmission fluid flush, and/or a software update. But if these don't solve the problem then you could be up for an expensive repair or transmission replacement.
Despite Volvo saying these transmissions are "lifetime fill", they should be serviced every 50,000 to 80,000 km.
